Burning the Qu'ran Costs Money

It appears that the cult-like "church" in Florida is about to learn another consequences of following the heretic that lead it.  Authorities in Gainsville, Florida plan to bill Dove World Outreach Church approximately $180,000 for the costs of providing the massive security efforts around Mr. Jones' threats to burn multiple copies of the Qu'ran.

Mr. Jones, after incredible grandstanding on the national and international media, called off his plans to burn copies of the  Qu'ran shortly before September 11.  As I said in other posts, Mr. Jones, whose knowledge of the Christian faith is sketchy at best, and more closely resembles heresy, is an acute embarrassment to the the Christian faith through his message of hate and intolerance.  His plan to burn the Qu'ran, a book holy to over 1 billion adherents to Islam, showed how little Mr. Jones had read of the book he claims to rever, the Holy Bible.

"If someone strikes  you on one cheek, turn to him the other also.  If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic." Luke 6:29.  Mr. Jones at one point was asked in a CNN interview about this principle.  He replied, "I think in deed that most of the time, we as Christians are indeed call to turn the other cheek.  I believe that most of the time, talk and diplomacy is the correct way.  But I always think that once in a while, I think you see that in the Bible, there are incidents where enough is enough and you stand up." (Emphasis added) Oh, really?  I wish I had been there to ask Mr. Jones to show me where Christ said that Christianity was a "part-time" faith, or that we could pick and choose those parts that we don't like.  I have looked, and I can't find any such passage.  Instead, Christ ordered us, in Luke 6: 27-28, to "But I tell you who hear me, Love your enemies, Do good to those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you."  This is the fundamental lesson of love and tolerance by which Christians are known.

As the circus down in Florida was winding to a close, the emphasis of Mr. Jones suddenly shifted to a interest in the location of the Islamic Center in New York.  Whether this had been an interest of his in the past, and was just suddenly announced to the world when he found  himself of the attention that he so cravenly desired, or whether this was a sudden revelation that he could make brownie points with the right wing who oppose the Islamic Center but who had condemned his plans is unknown.  But the timing is suspicious.

Now, that the security concerns are apparently done, and Mr. Jones no longer claims to be interested in burning the Qu'ran, let us hope that the God that Mr. Jones claims is on his side will help him pay the $180,000 bill for the security on the circus that he caused with his heresy and self-aggrandizement.

*SIGH!* It's not just the "right-wing" that opposes the Ground Zero Mosque. In July 2010 a poll by the NY Times found a majority of Americans were opposed to it. A Rassmussen national poll in July 2010 found 54% of Americans are opposed to the mosque while only 24% support it. An August 2010 Fox News Poll found that amoung Dems 56% opposed while 38% for, amoung Reps it was 76% to 17% and amoung Independents it was 57.6% to 23.7%.

Amoung NYC voters a poll done by Quinnipac University showed it was 52% to 31%...and we all know NYC is not a Republican town.

Here's a list of people who aren't "right wingers" and don't support it:

Howard "YEARGH" Dean doesn't support it. HARDLY a right winger. In fact is about as far to the left as you can get without calling him a Communist.

Joe Lieberman a card carrying member of the Democrats till the Dems had a fit and supported someone even more left of him.

NYS Democratic Assemblyman Richard Brodsky.

Harry Reid! Yeah he's a right-winger!

Democratic Rep. Mike Mchanon of NY 13th district.

Democratic Rep. Steve Isreal of NY 2nd district.

Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop of NY 1st district.

Democratic Rep. John Hall of NY 19th district.

Now here's a list of "right-wingers" that support the mosque:

NYC Mayor and Republican Michael Bloomberg.

Republican Senator from Utah Orin Hatch.

US Texas Rep. Ron Paul.

So lets please stop pretending that this is an left vs. right issue. There are a large number of people who have questions regarding the funding and the organizers of this mosque on both the right and the left. Let's not forget that recently Rauf has been dragged into a NJ court for being a slum lord (HAVE YOU SEEN THE CONDITION OF THE APPARTMENTS HE OWNS? I HAVE AND WOW!). Worse even still is that he got money from NJ to fix his buildings.

How about the fact that the organizer, has been evicted for not paying its rent.

This is WAYYYY deeper than simple bigotry my friend and you need to get some prespective instead of painting everyone and all of it with a broad stroke.

As for the Quran burning group, I'm glad they're getting billed for the security. Though they have the RIGHT to burn it they should've know that RIGHT'S come with responsibilities. In this case I think it fair that they cover all or a part of the cost of the security their excising of their 1st Ammendment right cost the state. You might say...Although Rauf has the RIGHT to build he also has a responisbility to the state as well ;-).

Just last week the most senior Muslim cleric in Saudi Arabia said they should find an alternate location for the mosque. He said if they are really trying to prove that Islam is a religion of peace and can get along with others then they should not put a mosque within sight of ground zero out of respect for the families of those who died there.
